Rising Shadows by Ashley Townsend

Rising Shadows by Ashley Townsend

I have read many books where the Author was a new one.  I usually find their works readable and really good, but I found that this book was distracting, timing was off, and not interesting.  The story should have been put together more by a better choice of words, and the story should have been a little longer.  I was facinated at first but then it got very distracting.

I give this book a 2 star rating.

Vegans Are F**king Delicious by Regan Wolfrom

Regan Wolfrom does it again in this short thriller/horror story. Marie-Claire is a normal young woman, who like most of us has everything in life that she wants, except for one thing, she eats Vegans.  What is a vegan you ask?  Vegetarians!  Yes you read that correctly, she eats people.  People who are vegans and don’t want to live anymore.

Marie-Claire was introduced to cannibalism shortly after her parents went to New Guinea.  They saw the Korowai tribe eat the forbidden long-pig.  They wanted to try it so they started doing the same.  That is why she chose the career as an End of Life Counselor.  She eats people who want to die.  But she is choosy.  She only eats the ones who are vegetarians.

Meet Eleanor.  She is a young vegan who knows about Marie-Claire.  A stalker I would say.  It seems that every time Marie-Claire finds a potential meal, Eleanor is there to stop her.

Meet Michael, an undercover FDA agent.  He rescues Marie-Claire; they fall in love, and so on.  She introduces him to cannibalism while dating. You will have to read the book to find out how it ends.

It was very intriguing to me to think like he does when reading this book.  I never thought that a story about Cannibalism would be funny.   I am not going to include any more about the story due to its graphic nature, and spoilers.  This story would have been better if it had been a little bit longer and the story started out telling about the girl in the first chapter.

*If the rest of his stories are as good as this one, I wonder if he would publish a book of short stories.  Just a thought!

POLO IN BRITAIN A HISTORY by Horace A. Laffaye

POLO IN BRITAIN A HISTORY by Horace A. Laffaye; Foreword by Nicholas J. A. Colguhoun-Denvers; McFarland & Company, Inc., Publishing

POLO IN BRITAIN A HISTORY is exactly what it says, a history of the sport Polo. I couldn’t imagine playing a sport that involves riding a horse while using an extra long croquet mallet, hitting a ball through some posts. Of course some would say the same about Golf or Football. But given the fact that this sport started in the 1800’s it is no surprise that it involved a horse. The fact that it was started by some Military Officials is not surprising either.

This book tells about the history of Polo, and has some pretty amazing facts. There are organizations that are strictly polo. There are a lot of cups too. I thought Golf had a lot of championships but Polo in my opinion probably has more. There are championships for Women Polo players too. If I had a horse I would like to try to play myself. It has information on past winners, photos of the Windsor family plus many more pictures of other players. It also tells how the sport traveled across the globe.

Did you know that polo is played with a team of only 4 players? I thought that was pretty neat given the fact that your riding a horse makes it safer to play in teams of four. I also found it interesting that the Windsor Family also play Polo. Prince Charles plays polo, as did his father Prince Philip. I didn’t know that.

Given all the information in this book I would recommend this book for any sports enthusiast and any one who likes to read a historical book. I am going to get Polo in the United States A History next. This is a good read, and I give it a 5 star rating.

GNOME ON GIRL ON GNOME: A LOVE STORY by REGAN WOLFROM

Gnome On Girl On Gnome: A Love Story by Regan Wolfrom

This is a 12 page short story, but it is worth the $.99 at Amazon.com. I have never read this type of book until now. This story was a story about love, mushrooms, gnomes, and magic. Marguarite is a single girl, who is wanting to experience love herself, but has never had the opportunity to. She ends up falling in love but in a weird way, I should say. I found my self amazed at the thought put into this story. If you like magic and have a great imagination this book is for you. Also If you have like stories about weird kinky sex this book is for you. If you also have a fetish about dark places, and garden gnomes then this story is for you. I may just purchase her other books to see what they are like.

THE DOGS OF PILOTHEAD SOUND by C.S. Walkingheart

The Dogs of Pilothead Sound has been by far the best book I have ever read.  It made me laugh, mad, happy, sad, and burst into tears.  I have never read a book that was so moving.  Cass, Father Mario, Justin, Kippie, Marten, Cato, Jon, and many other characters make up this story.  There is another story going on.  It’s about Abel who is also going through something in his life as well along with friends he left behind.  I love the way the story started and ended.  C.S. Walkingheart put a lot of thought and love from his heart into this book.  He shows that the spirit can show you where to go.  He shows you that even though you think you don’t like someone, your feelings about that person can change.  Don’t judge by appearance as in the case of Cass and Marten. The story is about Cass, a burned out Painter/Artist.  He is spiritually in need of something more.  His friends don’t understand where and why he is leaving.  He moves to Pilothead Sound.  A wonderful place of people with mixed Native American tribes in one area.  His move changes the rest of his life and the life of others around him.  I really think this book personally should be in print but it is only available in e-book format.  By reading this book, I felt connected to the characters and their stories.  I felt like they were family, like they were sitting in my living room talking to me telling everything going on.  The book is that detailed.  I would have to say the end gets me choked up.  An unexpected friend ship starts and a bond is finally forged.  This book is very moving and is a must have for every reader in my opinion.  I was in awe over the relationship between Cass and Marten that I stayed on the edge of my seat.  I plan on reading the next part to the book once it is released.

My Review Rating for this book on a 1-5 star scale I would have to give this book a 5 star rating.
